Season summary
The Holy Cross badminton team came together this season with exceptional teamwork- especially at their last minute KASSAA tournament.   The doubles and mixed doubles worked hard together, and sent grade 12 returner,  Grace Esford to EOSSAA after five years of hard work.  Grace placed 5th overall and attained a KASSAA silver medal.  Another highlight to the season was when David Dyck destroyed a racquet with his overhead smash.  Overall it was a good season and Coach Roberts is very proud of all who came out.

The long awaited, and at times uncertain, Kassaa Badminton Tournament was held yesterday at Regiopolis Notre Dame. Seven local high schools sent full squads to compete in the Open Women’s, Men’s, Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles tournaments. The Holy Cross team consisted of some experienced and some rookie players, but all performed well against some tough competition. Notable matches included the indomitable Grace Esford, who after dropping to the consolation round fought back to win Silver in the Open Women’s singles tournament. Grace will be headed to EOSSAA on April 23rd! This is a career goal for Grace and she fought hard to secure this win.Swingna Xiao and Emma Chen, both new to HC Badminton played some exceptional games and ultimately placed fourth in the Women’s Doubles Tournament. These two players worked well together and faced some tough competition while all the while smiling and enjoying the experience. Great job ladies!Also new to HC Badminton, David Dyck showed exceptional strength and determination. He truly showed his HC spirit and left his mark on the court. Look for good things from this young man in next years tournament!It should also be noted that 3 junior players from the HC squad played up in to the Senior Tournament. Avery Esford, played with Tessa VanZevenbergen in the mixed doubles tourney, and Jordan Grady and Ryan Kinsella played in the Men’s Doubles division. These games were a real challenge for the junior players, but they played with heart and skill! Once again, these players have real potential for next season- keep a watchful eye on these up and coming Badminton stars!Coach Roberts is proud of the entire squad and thanks everyone for their participation, commitment and HC Pride!

Season Summary
There are many positive things to say about all Crusader badmintinains. First off there was a consistent and dedicated turnout of 50 students despite the treacherous 7a.m practices, 3 times a week, for five whole months. A special moment in the season was the site of Cody “The Destroyer” Alcorn breaking a graphite racquet shaft with just the sheer force of his smash shot. Lastly, after 5 intense sets, Grace Esford’s skill, determination, and stamina earned her a third place in the KASSAA singles finals for the senior girls. The Badminton team this year was very successful for the entire team as a whole
