Holy Cross has an innovative guitar program headed by Mr. Vincenzo Stabile who teaches all guitar classes.
Students are introduced to the guitar course in grade 9 where they are given the opportunity to learn preliminary music theory, chording, & tablature; no prior musical experience is necessary. As the semester progresses, students of grade 9 guitar are exposed to performance both in and outside the classroom. Coffee Houses are scheduled in each semester and all students are encouraged to audition with covers of popular songs or originally written pieces.

Following their introduction to guitar in grade 9, students are able to further pursue their study of the guitar at the grade 10, 11 and 12 grade levels. Students in these grade levels are challenged to build on their understanding of guitar and its discipline. They learn how to manipulate a pick when playing songs and are exposed to different finger-picking techniques. Learning is scaffolded in each course so that no course uses the same pieces; this ensures an evolution of both understanding and technique.
** Additional performance opportunities include the spring Coffee House and Cabaret; a night of entertainment organized by our very own Grade 11 Drama class.**
Here at Holy Cross, Guitar classes are enthusiastic about music and all that it has to offer. Cultivating the talents of student artists is a vocation that all members of the the Arts Department share.
