Sector profile
The Arts & Culture sector offers students opportunities to get inspired and use their unique skills and abilities in careers in visual arts, drama and performance, technical theatre, dance, media and many other creative areas. Arts education challenges people to think critically and solve problems creatively – skills that are in high demand in all walks of life.
Some future career paths
For Arts and Culture majors, possible career paths include these occupation groupings:

Apprenticeship – artisan or craftsperson; other technical and coordinating occupation in motion pictures, broadcasting, or the performing arts; painter or decorator; actor or comedian; announcer or other broadcaster; artisans or craftsperson.

College – actor or comedian; animator - graphic design and illustration; announcer and other broadcasters; apparel production supervisor; artisan or craftsperson; broadcast technician; film or video camera operator; graphic arts technician; graphic designer or illustrator; interior designer; other performer; other technical and coordinating occupations in motion pictures, broadcasting, and the performing arts; photographer; technical occupations related to museums and art galleries; theatre, fashion, exhibit or other creative designer; video recording technician.

University – author or writer; conductor, composer, or arranger; conservator or curator; dancer; painter, sculptor, or visual artist; producer, director, choreographer, and related occupations; public relations and communications.

Program requirements
In the Arts & Culture major, students will take 8 credits in grade 11 and 12:

4 major credits that provide sector-focused knowledge and skills
-
1 English credit (Grade 11 or 12

1 Business Studies or Canadian & World Studies credit (Grade 11 or 12)

2 Co-operative Education credits to apply, refine, and extend your sector knowledge and skills
Additionally, students will have these opportunities:

Experiential learning, career exploration and reach-ahead activities in the Arts & Culture sector

Certifications and training programs, including:
-
3 compulsory certifications: Standard First Aid, CPR Level C with AED, and WHMIS (generic)

3 additional certifications or training programs
-
A sector-partnered contextualized learning experience, such as training in Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship
