H.R. Frink Outdoor Education Centre
Located just north of Belleville in Plainfield, ON, the H.R. Frink Outdoor Education Centre is a 500 acre Conservation Area owned by Quinte Conservation and operated in partnership with the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board and the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. Highlights at the H.R. Frink OE Centre include: a marsh boardwalk for aquatic habitat studies, water front access to the Moira River for canoeing, a serviced outdoor pavilion, a “Sugar Shack” and full Maple Bush demonstration program, a multi-element low ropes challenge course and 14 km of hiking trails through a variety of habitats.
Msgr. J.S. Ryan Outdoor & Environmental Education Centre
Located at the mouth of the historic St. Lawrence River on Wolfe, Island, the largest of the 1000 Islands, The Msgr. J.S. Ryan Outdoor & Environmental Education Centre is available to all ALCDSB school sites during the regular school year. The Ryan is owned and operated by the ALCDSB along with land support from the Sacred Heart of Mary Parish and the generosity of private landowners throughout the Island. Commuting to the Centre aboard the Wolfe Islander III provides an exciting experience for staff and students alike with several curriculum connections to be made along the way. Highlights at the Msgr. J.S. Ryan OE Centre include: a variety of habitats including forest, farm fields and vernal ponds; access to Wetlands for aquatic studies; access to one of 86 2.1 Megawatt wind turbines for energy studies; a small scale Maple Bush demonstration program and an impressive display of natural history artifacts to support discovery learning.
