During the week of May 2 to May 6, 2022, The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) are celebrating the significant contributions that Catholic Education has made to the community, the province and to Canada. During Catholic Education Week ALCDSB schools will also recognize Mental Health Week as an opportunity to promote mental health and well-being across our system.
“Observing a concurrent celebration of Catholic Education and Mental Health allows our board to celebrate and highlight our ongoing mission, while reinforcing the correlation between practicing faith and positive mental health. Celebrating the significant contributions of Catholic Education through a series of purposeful events and activities supports faith formation for all members of our Catholic school community. By participating in Catholic Education Week, we are celebrating our achievements, and all members of the ALCDSB are reminded to recognize, understand, and apply social-emotional learning and mental health skills in all areas of their lives." Said David DeSantis, Director of Education.
Catholic Education and Mental Health Week will be celebrated across the province during the week of May 2 – 6, 2022. The theme of Catholic Education Week 2022 is Rebuild, Restore, Renew Together. This year, Mental Health Week focuses on how empathy is important for our mental health.
There are five sub-themes, one for each day of Catholic Education Week and Mental Health Week. The themes are aimed at helping staff and students to reflect more fully on what Rebuilding, Restoring, Renewing Together means to them.
The subthemes of Catholic Education Week and the components that support Mental Health and over all well-being are:
Catholic Education Week Mental Health Week
Monday: Rediscover Emotional
Tuesday: Rebuild Social
