On September 30th, we are asked to reflect nationally on the Residential School System in Canada. Orange shirts are worn in memory of all the Indigenous children whose culture, language, and freedoms were lost, oppressed, or challenged. As schools and as a nation, we remember our Calls to Action.
Reconciliation is about our journey towards mending and building relationships with Indigenous communities that are based on intercultural empathy, understanding, and mutual respect.
This year, SMB has participated by wearing our orange shirts and by engaging in many classroom activities around Orange Shirt Day and Indigenous Education.
